punctate void

n. the mental pause that occurs after you've just said a long sentence and you hear the echo of your voice in the silence that follows, the moment before you begin speaking again, when you're left with a vivid mental image of your own face, seen from a distance, talking, talking, talking, and you wonder if you're annoying the other person, if you're coming across as too serious or too intense or too talkative, when what you really want to say is, "Listen, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to go on and on, I just get so excited when I talk about things I'm interested in, and I just want to tell you, I'm not trying to be obnoxious, I'm not trying to impress you, I just get carried away, I just get so excited."
